A must for any teacher

I love Caught'ya grammar. I have used it everyday for the past 8 years I have taught. I have never used the 2nd grade version (bought it for a co-worker) but I have used the first, third grade, and fourth grade stories. This is the only grammar/editing program I have used that has had such an impact on my students' learning. I work at a Title 1 school where half of my class began the year 1 or more grades below grade level. It is December and they are using quotation marks, commas, and indentions with ease. When doing the first grade story, I bought a ball "Eggbert" (the main character in the story) for my classroom. In the story, Eggbert is a ball that bounces by himself. Every night after the students left, I moved Eggbert around the room. They loved looking for him everyday and it made them even more excited about the story.
Update: I used the second grade version this past year, and it was just as good as the other versions. I bought a stuffed skunk for the classroom to go along with the story, and the students loved it. I sent Petra (the skunk) home with them and they had to write about their adventures. Adding this element made them even more excited about the GRAMMAR story. Yes, students excited about grammar.

Excellent and Effective Grammar Learning System

This is an excellent approach for teaching grammar to reluctant writers. The story is cute and funny and it's the first thing my students want to do in the morning. As the teacher, you write the sentences on the board incorrectly. The students "catch" the grammar errors and then write the corrected sentences in their jornal, in a sense, writing their own copy of the story. The errors, at first, are simply capitalization mistakes and missing punctuation. As the lessons progress and the students gain confidence, the concepts of paragraphs, comma usage, and quotes marks are introduced. This grammar system is a great foundation builder that, I believe, will stay with the student for years to come. I can't say enough good things about the author and creator of this system. She's brilliant and genius and she's created something that really works for all students, no matter their learning level.
