About the Author
Hi, my name's Victoria Bampton, and I'm the author of the 'Adobe Lightroom- The Missing FAQ' series of books. I'm an Adobe Community Professional and Certified Expert, but more importantly, I'm a real user, just like you. You probably recognize my name from one of the many Lightroom or other photographic forums I frequent. I love spending time helping Lightroom users get the best out of the software! In fact, that's where this book started - certain questions come up repeatedly on the forums, and none of the available books seem to answer them - or if they do, you have to read the entire book to find the answer. I wanted to be able to recommend an easy reference book - one that you can pick up and skip straight to the answer you're looking for - but there wasn't one. Instead, I sat down and compiled a list of questions directly from the forums, and wrote jargon-free answers as if I was answering a user on the forums. This is the information you actually want to know, in an easy reference format. It's as simple as that!

Adobe is back with Lightroom 5, which means photographers using the powerful software are clamoring to learn all about the newest version. Victoria's book fills this need perfectly. From the start of the book, Victoria makes everything easy to find with a simple Table of Contents, followed by a Table of Contents in Detail. This may not sound like a big deal, but it makes the book incredibly easy to browse and research the issue you might be having.
We photographers are visual. Victoria's book is designed simply and without garish decorations and it makes it much easier to focus upon the screenshots and content. The book focuses on the things that I need to know, and doesn't waste time getting to the questions you'll have.
In my experience, books on Lightroom fall into one of two categories: quick start books that get straight to the basics, and fully detailed books that cover EVERY part of Lightroom. Victoria managed to create a book that covers both. Chapter 2 is a quick start guide that you can use if you're new to Lightroom. The rest of the book is a complete course on how to use the app.
Victoria has penned the book that I will use when I'm searching for the details that I need to deliver high quality images to my clients. Victoria, thanks for this book and the work that you do. As a fellow Lightroom instructor, I'm thrilled with how much I've learned from this book.

The Lightroom 5 Missing Manual

Had a MAJOR catastrophy yesterday when my Lightroom 5 cataloge file crashed unn ceramoniously without warning.
Couldn't find a backup (which I do religeously) to straighten it out.
Tried creating a New Catalog but it was not successful 30,000 files plus numerous Collections were wandering about in the ether somewhere.
Where to turn???? Fist stop the Scott Kelby LR4 book.....no help.....
Tried splitting up the Data files & creating 2 new Catalogs, not much success there either.
I'd just bought Victoria's new Lightroom 5 'Missing Manual' and it helped a lot!
Called Adobe, got some geek somewhere in the nether world who's best advice was to copy all my file to a new folder & try to create a NEW catalog, this would lose all my collections.
I didn't realize at the time that LR5 uses a new default Windows folder for storing the lcat files. When I went to the usual location, all I found was LR 3, 4, files
Sent a plea for help to Victoria.........She answered quickly and over the next few hours & numerous emails, she walked me thru the repair, which in the end restored all my info, collections and alll. She was super helpfull to a LR novice and we are now up & running again with everything fixed.
I can't rave enough about the help (at no cost to me but TIME for her) and she was patient & supportive whilst I was having a complete meltdown.
I heartily reccommend her new book and its really inexpensive for the PDF version

A very good book!

I've watched so many online tutorials and webinars and I learned about everything I need from them...almost. Sometimes it seems that there is nothing like a good written guide, that explains everything (and this book hits EVERYTHING). Many of the points made in Ms. Bampton's book make you want to stop and try it right then and I do. The writing style is comfortable, the teaching accurate and this is simply a great LR 5 book.
Then you get to the bonus parts of getting not only the e-book, as Ms. Bampton said herself, is actually the primary version of her work (absolutely great to keep on a tablet and handy as a more mobile reference), but getting this hard copy too. Best of both worlds!!
Plus, besides the great e-book, and a hard copy backup, you get a premium membership on her website to keep up with the latest.
Highly recommended; the e-book, hard copy and the website. Try it all! You'll like it all!!
