What I like most about the PARACHUTE series is the author. If you don’t know it already, it will be clear after reading this book, that Richard Bolles is PASSIONATE about job search and advancing careers. His passion for the subject shows up loud and clear in this latest installment in the series.

It is easy to see why this series has been so wildly successful. Honestly, you would be absolutely NUTS to not read this book (or a recent edition.) The author has extensive experience in the field, and backs up his ideas with impressive evidence. That is, the recommendations here are not theoretical—they are founded in decades of experience. Furthermore, the material in PARACHUTE is presented in a clear, easy to read format.

There is one priceless section--do not miss "Conversation Tips." The author knows WHY the interviewer is asking you certain questions! For example, Bolles notes in Tip #13 that "Employers don't care about your past; they only ask about it as a way to predict your FUTURE behavior.” If one knows what the interviewer is really looking for, you can plan accordingly.

The author warns the reader to watch out when the interviewer suggests, "Tell me about yourself." Bolles: "How you answer that question will determine your fate during the rest of the interview." This question if really a test of sorts, Bolles explains. What they are really doing is a sneaky way of asking, “What experience, skills, or knowledge do you have, that are relevant to the job I am trying to fill.” So, forget your hobbies and personal history--that's not relevant.

This edition has updated suggestions on how to best use social/networking sites. In LinkedIn, for example, Mr. Bolles points out the importance of completely filling out your user profile, so that prospective employers can get an accurate picture of your qualifications. Bolles notes that surveys always show that not having a picture is a turn-off.

Finding your mission in life will not be trivial--and it will not be quick. Despite the stress coming from a job search, being forced to find a job can have beneficial effects on our whole life. It offers "a chance to make some fundamental changes in our whole life. It marks a turning point in how we live our life."

I suspect many readers of prior editions will be wondering if this year’s edition is really all that different from recent editions. Is it really necessary to go out and buy the very latest model? In my opinion, if you have an edition just 1 or 2 years old, you are not missing much. Many of the changes in the “2017” version are related to internet services. For instance, the author includes the latest and greatest job search engines that were not listed in prior editions. As another example, the author includes updates to the very latest career counselors.

All in all, I found WHAT COLOR IS YOUR PARACHUTE 2017 to be an outstanding work. It continues the string of top-notch career guides by the #1 expert in the field. As Mr. Bolles explains at the end of the book, PARACHUTE is not written by committee—it is personally researched and written by the author. If you are serious about your career, you would be nuts to not read this book (or at least a recent edition.) Some of the appendices will certainly be controversial, because the author (a former Episcopal priest) makes his own religious beliefs clear. It is indeed very unusual for a job-search book to include exhortations on self-examination and one’s mission in life.

Should be a mandatory course in every college and university. If the reader of any age WORKS Mr. Bolles' incredible contribution he or she will be transformed into a confident self-assured, motivated, excited and enthusiastic job/career seeker........a seeker who searches for 'what fits with his/her work requirements"....rather than someone who hopes to find an employer who will provide a job, ugh! In my career journey I have successfully used Mr. Bolles' "difference maker' six times. I speak from experience. THANK YOU, MR. BOLLES!

Heart Hurts for Kellan

Well I'll start off by saying that it was hard for me to read Thoughtless because I truly hate reading about characters that cheat. But I read it and the two books that followed and ended up loving them. I loved Kellan! Even though I knew this book would obviously take the reader through the cheating again I preordered it because I really like to get the male perspective. The end result for me was that I fell more in love with Kellan and felt the pain that followed him through his life as a result of the cruelty of his parents. Were his inner thoughts too much? It was a little overkill. But it didn't bother me. What bothered me was Kiera, even more so than the first book. I love that they end up together I just hate that the process hurt him so much. Of course I've preordered Griffin's book. I'm anxious to see how Kiera and Kellan are doing and I caNY imagine what disaster Griffin can create.

Love Kellan!

If you know the story Thoughtless by SC Stephens then Thoughtful should be no stranger to you as it's the same story, but this time it's told from Kellan's point of view.

The biggest thing I got out of this book was how emotional Kellan Kyle is. He's definitely been screwed up by parents who didn't love him, and he's written so well that you can practically feel how confused he is that firstly, someone could love him, and secondly, how he feels that they will just walk away, because everyone does.

It feels like a long read but it's because the content is quite emotionally heavy, in the same way that Thoughtless was but this felt a little more so and that's most likely because of the baggage that Kellan holds inside him. However, it never lost my interest despite already knowing the story.

I enjoy SC Stephens writing style and she seemed to follow the Thoughtless story closely enough that I didn't notice any obvious holes in the storyline. I was a little hesitant to read this at first as it was the same story, but I'm glad that I finally decided to read this book as the Thoughtless series is one of my favourites and even more so now.

Great read once again and I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the Thoughtless series.

The Thoughtless series has been one of my favorite series ever since I first read it. Kellan Kyle is just one of those characters that don't make it easy for a reader to forget him. He is an up and coming rock-star who is bound to make it big in the music industry. He is a sex god and there isn't a single person who doesn't know who Kellan Kyle is. The man, the legend and lead singer of the D-Bags. Ever since the first book, all I wanted was to get inside his head. I wanted to see his thought process, why he was the way he was and did the things he did. I wanted to know what it felt like to go through the whole roller coaster that was the beginning of his and Kiera's relationship.
This book was exactly what I expected it to be. It didn't disappoint a single bit. First of all, it is not by all means a short read. This is one of those books you need to sit down with and take some time to read and actually enjoy it. Although the plot moves slowly, it is a very smooth and amazing book. I loved watching Kellan slowly realize just how serious his feeling for Kiera were from the very beginning. I loved how he was constantly giving more and more pieces of himself to her until he had nothing and yet he never for a second regretted it. He gave all he had and it was all worth it just to be near her. A love like that is so powerful it can either make you or break you.
I will admit that while reading this book, I got frustrated with both Kellan AND Kiera. Kiera was constantly clueless as to what she was doing. She didn't think about the consequences of her actions until the actions were already done. Then again, I think that is what frustrated everyone. Besides that, this book was addictive. Kellan and Kiera never stood a chance away from one another. It's like if they were made specifically for each other. It was unstoppable. They are exactly what one another needed.
I loved getting to experience this emotional roller coaster from Kellan's point of view. All throughout the book, the only thing I wanted was to wrap him up in a blanket and feed him cookies. It was wonderful. I absolutely love this authors books.

while this story has about 3 steamy scenes with one a little too wierd and freaky (with a banana), the story and plot is not all that great. its one of those short stories. i finish the story in under an hour. i guess you get what you paid for. for someone who is looking for books like "50 shades of grey" or "honor student" or abbi glines collection, this is definetly not the book (more like short story) not for you. now i have to keep the book in my kindle. i wish there was more reviews like mine. probably would've kept me from buying it

About the Author
Christopher Seeley (B.A. Hons. & PhD, London University) has written extensively on the Japanese writing system and Chinese characters; his publications include A History of Writing in Japan (E.J. Brill, 1991, republished University of Hawai'i Press, 2000). He was senior lecturer and Head of Department at the Asian Languages Department, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand until his retirement in 2001.

Kenneth G. Henshall is well known for the many books he has written on Japanese literature, history, and culture, as well as for his popular Japanese language-learning textbooks. A graduate of the universities of London (B.A. Hons), Sydney (Ph.D.), and Adelaide (Dip. Ed.), he is now Associate Professor of Japanese at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. He has also taught at the universities of Auckland, Western Australia, California, and Waikato.

Dr. Jiageng Fan specializes in the relationship between the Chinese and Japanese languages and scripts, focusing on the etymology of characters and the change of societal/cultural values which they reflect. If you are like me and you do not like Heisig's method of ...

If you are like me and you do not like Heisig's method of memorising kanji (which will help you memorise a great amount of kanjis, yes, but without knowing how to pronounce or compund them), this might just be the book for you. It aims at explaining the development of each kanji, which will help you understand these characters with a historic-semantic approach.
However, this updated version has taken a much more academic direction than Henshall's original book. There are certain pros and cons to this: solid sources are cited and a diverse range of explanations are included, but they take a tone that may not exactly be fun to read(unlike Henshall's original). It is a great source for advanced Japanese students, but is not begginer-friendly.

Positive changes - first section has the 1006 educational characters in its superior pedagogical order to the previous 996; characters are shown in clear large print which is much easier to discriminate than the previous brush strokes; all 2136 new kanji are included of course; JLPT levels are marked, however they had to arbitrarily decide if a character is L2 or L3, also all characters other than L2-L5 are marked L1, what else could you do although in the older rankings 26 rare kanji were properly left out of the listings, ex #1731 (CHIN) now has an L1 listing whereas previously properly left out; mixed ON-kun kanji examples are printed caps/small for components which is nice (ex #1187) unlike before.
The etymologies have undergone a lot of rewrite with sources cited. Sometimes this is really helpful. As an example #1234 KIN meaning "fungus, bacteria". I slightly prefer O'Neill's "fungus, germ" but not bad. In the etymology, it is clearly shown that the character originally meant mushroom and fungus (Shirakawa and Shuowen). Try reading the etymology and the character springs alive! (note the crowding concept in the character). Often it is more useful than the mnemonic given. In addition the examples are really good here and throughout the book. Here SAIKIN is bactera (detailed germ) and KINRUI (fungus type) means fungi - excellent. The example compounds in the book are really great with short and accurate definitions.
By the way, Kanji Alive (U. of Chicago) online also has really nice mnemonics for all N2-N5 and kyoiku kanji as well as others and are based on DeRoo. Some of those mnemonics are really super.

Excellent haggadah! This haggadah has all the traditional parts of a hagaddah--all the prayers in English, Hebrew, and transliterated. It even has 2 hand washing -- which no one does. Illustrations are great,haggadah is a lot of fun. The 9 year old girl loved it and read about 40% out loud at our seder. The 6 year old boy was less engaged. Adults all enjoyed it. This will be our family haggadah. I wish it started with the candlelighting but we added that in. Also, being a feminist I wish it had an orange on the Seder plate and Miriam's vessel. Again, we added those in. Maybe they will add them in new editions - Hint , hint!

Cute Haggadah!

I use these for seders that include guests who aren't very familiar with the holiday. The illustrations are great and they cover the important points. I'm not fond of the Four Children text, but the truth is I've never found a Haggadah that gets it right so I always end up supplementing. Only other thing I add is the Hebrew version of Dayeinu.

About the Author
Lizzie Mary Cullen is a multi-award-winning illustrator, speaker and artist based in London. Since graduating from Goldsmiths College, her psychogeographic maps and urban ink illustrations have been exhibited all around the world. She has gained a cult following for her distinctive, swirling pen-and-ink drawings and hugely popular colouring books for adults, The Magical City and The Magical Christmas.

65 Imaginative and Intricate Christmas Designs – designs are printed on both sides of non-perforated page

[[VIDEOID:ad05e01de1298836863d88ee02c798b5]]This is my second coloring book by Lizzie Mary Cullen. The other is The Magical City. I really enjoyed the first book and like this one even more because it celebrates my favorite time of the year. Ms. Cullen's artwork shows a beautiful swirl and flow that re-invents how I look at prospective. There are classic themes in the designs but they are imagined in a new and modern fashion. Most of the designs are very intricate, include some small areas for coloring, and fill the pages. The designs are definitely geared towards an British Christmas theme but there are nods to other places with designs specifically showing how Christmas is celebrated elsewhere. My favorite, because I love all things Holmes, is currently Christmas At Baker Street which will be my first design to color in this book.

There is also a hidden objects search and find as many artistic coloring books are now including. The key is in the back of the book, along with what amounts to a “proof sheet” of the pictures in the book with the names of the of the various designs. I'll include a long listing at the bottom of this review if you would like to look through what is included especially as the designs are so detailed, the names may be of equal use in understanding the contents of this book.

There are 65 designs in this book, 17 of which span across two pages.
The book is printed on a good medium weight white paper. The cover does not come off but the inside of front and back can be colored though the paper is extremely glossy. The outside of the front of the cover is beautifully illustrated and colored with touches of red and gold foil on it. There are parts left that you can color and the outside is slick but not glossy.

All of my markers bleed-through on this paper; however, none of my gel pens do though the darker colors leave a bit of shadowing on the back on the page. Coloring pencils work very well on this style of paper. As the book is printed doubled sided on non-perforated paper, I will probably be using my gel pens and colored pencils or will purchase a second book if I feel compelled to use my markers. The binding is sewn in rather than glued, so removing the pages will take a few snips of the thread every ten pages or so.

Many of the designs merge into the binding but as I won't be cutting the book itself, that isn't an issue if I take the book apart. For those who don't take the pictures out of the book, I was able to bend the binding enough to get the book fairly flat.

Just GORGEOUS! love the illustrations, paper is great...makes me want to get cozy with my fuzzy socks and blanket and curl up with my favorite pencils and pens. Lovely job Lizzie!
