Enhancing Your Social IQ - Gregory P. Korgeski, Ph.D.

This is a great book written with such an easy-to-read style and language that I find myself learning a whole lot without getting a brain ache from complex psychological terms and theories. The "tips" and "cautions" in the chapters are invaluable as are the self quizzes.

I have recommended the book to others who are in recovery, since so much of what we need to learn is how to constructively relate to people again and manage a world without our substance of choice.

One of the joys of reading the book is that someone finally explained how it is possible to be an extrovert while, at the same time, being painfully shy. I always thought the two were mutually exclusive, thereby making understanding of self much more difficult.

I highly recommend it to all - not just folks in recovery.

Zalot and Benedict Guevin, OSB, seek to clarify Church teaching on contentious ethical issues by offering a detailed examination of those teachings and the reasons behind them. Several factors underlie general misunderstanding and confusion over Catholic teaching on ethics, argue the authors. Among these, the Church itself hasn't clearly articulated its teachings on ethics to a lay audience, the media often misinterprets the Church's statements, and those responsible for teaching ethics may neglect or lack sufficient training to fulfill that role.

This revised edition of Catholic Ethics in Today's World has been rewritten for clarity and to reflect recent developments. Zalot and Guevin update and expand their discussion on the Church's teaching on ethics by offering thought-provoking discussion opportunities centered on such issues as the nation's recent recession, corporate fraud, the war in Afghanistan, premarital relations and birth control, reproductive technology, embryonic stem cell research, and care for the dying. The authors' intent is to explain Catholic teaching so that a clear and well-informed ethics of morality can arise.

About the Author
Jozef Zalot is associate professor of Religious Studies at College of Mount Saint Joseph, Cincinnati, OH. He has also taught at Mount Marty College, Yankton Federal Prison, Marquette University, and other schools and colleges. He has authored books and articles in the field, has presented at numerous professional conferences and invited lectures, and is the recipient of many scholarships and fellowships. He received his PhD in Religious Studies from Marquette University.

Benedict Guevin, OSB, is professor of Moral Theology at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. Rev. Guevin holds an STD from the Institut Catholique de Paris and a PhD from the University of Paris. He has published many scholarly articles and books, and is regularly quoted in the press.
