Superb for All Single Women

I LOVED this book b/c it seemed like the author was speaking directly to ME. This book is ESPECIALLY perfect for older singles: 30 and above. (Not to say that it doesn't speak to younger singles.) I'm 41 and divorced, and I found this book very encouraging; whereas, I got through approx the first 50 pages of another similar book, "What's a Girl to Do? While Waiting for Mr. Right," which was on the depressing side for me. Hardaway's "I Kissed A Lot of Frogs" doesn't prepare the reader for any "prince" or a "Mr. Right"; rather, it simply speaks to our situation of singleness and it helps the reader to be content in singleness and to maintain focus on our spiritual "prince," which is Jesus. "What's a Girl to Do?" seemed like it focused on "preparing" the reader for Mr. Right. I'm not looking to be prepared for Mr. Right, and I'm not looking for help in what to do until "Mr. Right" comes along, as "What's a Girl to Do" focuses on. Hardaway's book encouraged me to simply enjoy my singleness and not to feel like an oddball b/c I'm NOT looking for an earthly "prince" right now.

Outstanding!

I Kissed A Lot Of Frogs: But the Prince Hasn't Come completely changed my perception of my own singleness. I found myself in every chapter of the book. Some parts made me laugh while others brought me to tears. I could relate to every disappointment, every hurt, and every doubt. Being a single
woman in my late 20's, I do often wonder what is wrong with me or why God hasn't sent me a husband, as I am sure many other single women often wonder. Growing up in a Christian home and church family, I have always been told that God will give you the desires of your heart if you just ask Him. Well,
my desire is to be a wife and mother, but I often feel very discouraged that God doesn't have the same plans for my life. After reading this book, I finally realize that it isn't about me at all; it is all about Him. I have been distracted by my wants/desires, and I have taken my focus off of Him. It is difficult to wait on the Lord, but after reading this book, I have decided to trust His timing and serve Him faithfully in my singleness. And as I do wait, although not always patiently, for my earthly prince to one day sweep me off of my feet (that is still my heart's desire), I anticipate even more the return of my Heavenly Prince who in all of His glory, will one day look into my eyes and say, "Well done my child."

A blessed book by a blessed author.

I so loved reading this book. This is one of the few that I'm going to hang onto even after the last page has been read...I have a feeling it's one I'll be reading again (and again). While Kathleen Hardaway expresses the deep pain and anguish she has felt in the past about being single, in the latter chapters of the book she goes on to describe how she feels that God has blessed her with singleness (me too!). Her emotions are quite palpable, and if you really give yourself to the content of the book, you will find yourself crying and rejoicing right along with her, because so many of us have those same feelings, and she expresses them so well. I agree with one of the other reviewers who felt that Ms. Hardaway could have expanded this book to include proper responses to those snide and hurtful comments made by some. As a single mother, I also wish she would have touched more on the issues that I, and those like me, deal with (although what she did include was very helpful and encouraging). However, as it stands, this is a wonderful book, a very easy and possibly life-changing read. Thank you Kathleen!!

A Truly Better, Modern Bean Cookbook

This is a really outstanding volume and a welcome addition to anyone looking to expand their repertoire of cooking with dried beans, legumes, pulses, tofu, and even exotic grains. It stands as both a reference, with plenty of material in the front pages about cooking techniques and times, and as a recipe collection ranging from appetizers, soups, salads, sides, mains, and even some sweets.

The front material is comprehensive enough to allow you to blindly grab a bag of something interesting at your local ethnic market and feel confident that you'll find a basic outline of how to cook it, pair its flavors, and enjoy.

The book lives up to its subtitle as a Modern guide for cooking beans: there's absolutely no stodgy, brown, bland 1970s-era casseroles here. Nearly every recipe uses leafy greens, interesting grains, fresh or dried fruit, or something seasonal and interesting. Roasted beets and carrots with chickpeas in a sweet-sour pomegranate glaze pictured on the cover -- oh yes. This is definitely sit-up-and-take-notice recipe writing, and the author often cites contemporary chefs as her inspiration.

The hardcover edition is well bound and made of sturdy enough materials to survive enthusiastic kitchen time. The ingredients are listed in weight - grams / ounces - for precise measuring. The instructions are clear and a bit lively -- more engaging than straightforward, but in a way that still conveys to the experienced cook what is to be done. And most appreciated are the sidebar suggestions for substitutions and pairings: when you might want to swap kale for mustard greens, or add seared sausage atop a brothy bean and veggie dish. I've been really loving this as a shortcut for using what's local or on hand and still get a balanced dish that's enjoyable.

This volume by Jenny Chandler has become my go-to volume for bright, seasonal, contemporary cooking with beans and friends!

The present discussions concerning the emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in general was also current and has now reached a stage where the effects of these deliberations will become evident over the next few years. Concerns over the exposure of personnel to airborne electromagnetic fields has been current for some years as has discussions to the effects of long wave ultraviolet (UY.A) on human skin. Recommendations as to maximum permit� ted exposures over periods of time to both of these phenomena have been put forward and will doubtless form the basis of future legislation on the matter. A number of new specifications have appeared notably EN (European) and ISO specifications and some of these are still in preparation. Generally their impact will be minimal since these specifications are largely derived from existing documentation.

I would use this book as a read aloud to the whole class when I introduce addition with regrouping. I would read the book again after most of the children have mastered the concept. It could be used again with those students who have not yet mastered addition with regrouping in small group work. The children like the pictures. They responded to the questions eagerly. Working in a school with a large ELL population, I was glad to see the Spanish in the book. Their eyes lit up when I read the Spanish aloud. The children were motivated in interact with the story. This book would be used in Math to go along with addition with regrouping. It could also be used when discussing place value. This book would be great to have in a teachers' library for grades 1-5. I would recommend this book as a resource for Math literature. I would recommend using this book as an introduction t the math concept of addition with regrouping. It definitely should be a read aloud to either whole class or small instructional group setting. The kids enjoyed being read to during math because it was something different that the norm. The students stayed focused while I read this book. The book give illustrations with a story to go along with addition with regrouping. If there were enough copies, it could be used during small reading groups. It would be nice for the students t have their own copy to see the illustrations better. I would recommend this book to other teachers. It is a different and new way to introduce addition with regrouping. It gives students another way to learn math. Whole group or small group could benefit from this addition book. You could do this when teaching regrouping and use it along with your other materials. The book has wonderful illustrations. The mice characters make the math series appealing to children. My students were immediately engaged in the book from the first page where they found the character Onesie; dressed in a baby's one-piece shirt. They found this very amusing. The text and font were age appropriate and the questions printed in the inserts encouraged discussion. I used this book for Math and reviewing the concept of addition with regrouping to the hundreds place. We also infused the Spanish words into the discussion and related it to their Spanish lessons and vocabulary. I think it would be of great use to first and second grade. The concepts of regrouping really begin in first and second grade. I would recommend it for use to those teachers to supplement what they have. Mark Ramsay teaches elementary students in kindergarten through fifth grade in Amherst, New York. Base ten blocks are his favorite math manipulative. Deternined to make base ten blocks an even better teaching tool, he created The Good Neighbors Math Series. He lives with his wife and three children in East Aurora, NY.

Great Addition Story!

This story is part of a series that goes along with The Good Neighbors Cheese Feast. I ordered this story to use as a different approach to teach addition with regrouping to my second grade students. The story was interesting, colorful and very easy to follow. The students truly enjoyed reading it and couldn't wait to read the next story. Terrific story!!!!

Fabulously Functional & Full of Flavor!

This book has saved me so many hours and most importantly, without sacrificing imaginative cuisine packed full of flavor. I LOVE cooking and feel trapped and sad when I just can't make the time to do it -- this fabulous bible is now my go-to for getting dinner on the table AND even planning ahead, which is not naturally my style. I had to dust off my Cuisinart but I am glad that I did. I highly recommend buying this book and a food processor to prop up on your countertop - get buzzing now!

Perfect Gift

Awesome recipes in this beauty for the cook who enjoys making real hearty home-cooked meals. In this world of instant EVERYTHING this is a breathe of fresh air so to speak. I consider myself a novice in the kitchen but actually the recipes are simple enough to follow. The chicken potpie on the cover caught my eye which was as delicious as I remember them from my younger days. The organization of the book and pictures were thoughtfully put together. I also found the section on first food informative. As a mother who took the time to puree my daughter's baby food the simple suggestion for adding flavor are ingenious. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

So many uses for the processor

This cookbook is great for getting the most use out of your food processor. I have had a food processor for years and would only occasionally use it to chop nuts, onions etc.
This book guides you through the different types of blades and disks that most processors come with, I had only ever used the S blade!
The recipes are very easy to read and follow--everything from desserts, dips and main dishes. And prepping food yourself is much healthier than buying processed foods. I have tried several recipes this weekend and they turned out wonderfully. I cannot wait to explore and try more of the recipes from the book.
I like visual examples of food in recipes and this does have some, I wish it had more. But overall a great book to learn to get the full benefit of your food processor and get to eating more healthy.

The new techniques are particularly useful for the study of fiber bundles whose structure groups are not finite dimensional. The theory of characteristic classes of surface bundles is perhaps the most developed. Here the special geometry of surfaces allows one to connect this theory to the theory of moduli space of Riemann surfaces, i.e., Teichmuller theory. In this book Morita presents an introduction to the modern theories of characteristic classes.

Fairly good reading

The theory of characteristic classes goes back to the 1930's, and is a subject that is one of the most poorly motivated from a didactic point of view. The literature on the subject is vast, but there are few works that explain the theory in a way that is transparent and helpful to those who need to apply it, such as physicists in the areas of high energy physics and quantum field theory. Individuals who really desire an in-depth real understanding of characteristic classes, rather than a purely formal one, will find the road difficult. There does not seem to be anywhere in the literature a treatment of characteristic classes that gives genuine insight on why these objects work as well as they do for the jobs they are supposed to do. This book is no exception to this, but it does serve to introduce the reader to the theory of characteristic classes as it has been developed in the last few decades. The first chapter is an introduction to de Rham homotopy theory, and its purpose is to outline the approach of using differential forms rather than cohomology groups to study the homotopy type of a smooth manifold. After a brief overview of Postnikov decompositions, the author discusses the rational homotopy type of a topological space. This is a strategy that is based on ignoring torsion and viewing the homotopy group as being over the rational numbers. This makes computation of the homotopy type much easier. The rational spaces have fundamental groups that are Lie groups over the rationals and each higher homotopy group is a vector space over the rationals. This theory is basically due to D. Sullivan and his main results are proved in this chapter. The interesting part of this discussion is the construction of de Rham complexes over simplicial complexes instead of smooth manifolds. The author shows in detail how the rational cohomology can be computed for these types of objects. He then discusses the cohomology of groups in terms of Eilenberg-Maclane spaces, and defines what is called the Malcev completion of a finitely generated group. This is basically a rational nilpotent completion of the group, and is used in the chapter to give the connection between fundamental groups and differential forms.
In chapter 2, the author discusses characteristic classes over flat bundles. The author shows very effectively how the fundamental group of the base space of a flat bundle can introduce twist in the flat bundle. The Chern-Weil theory, which allows one to study the global structure of principal bundles with a given Lie group as a structure group, is reviewed in the first part of the chapter. The author also gives a very interesting characterization of flatness in terms of holonomy homomorphisms. Then after a brief overview of the cohomology of Lie algebras, he defines characteristic classes of flat product bundles. Since a given principal bundle may not be trivial, defining characteristic classes for a general flat principal bundle takes more work, which the author does nicely in what follows. The Chern-Simons theory, so important in physical applications, is then discussed as a specialization of the Chern-Weil theory. The author then returns to the consideration of characteristic classes of flat bundles via Gelfand-Fuks cohomology. This is the cohomology of the subcomplex of the continuous cochains of the smooth vector fields of a smooth manifold, and the author shows how it acts as a characteristic class for flat product bundles.
The author moves on to the characteristic classes of foliations in chapter 3. This is a topic very important to those who study dynamical systems, and the author gives a pretty good overview of how characteristic classes can measure the global properties of foliations. He reviews briefly what foliations are, and then defines the Godbillon-Vey characteristic class for a foliation of a smooth manifold. The author gives an example of foliation for the Lie group PSL(2, R), and shows the existence of a non-trivial Godbillon-Vey class for a collection of torsion-free discrete subgroups of this group. The Bott vanishing theorem is proved, and then the author shows how to relate the Gelfand-Fuks cohomology to the characteristic classes of foliations via the Weil algebra. Then the author gives a fascinating discussion on how to find "discontinuous invariants" induced by a real cohomology class. The discussion is very interesting given the disparity between real and integer cohomology classes. He then returns to the consideration of the characteristic classes of flat bundles where now the Lie group is replaced by a given closed smooth manifold.
In the last chapter of the book, the author discusses the characteristic classes of surface bundles, where the genus of the surface is greater than or equal to 2. String theorists will appreciate the discussion, as it goes into the mapping class group of surfaces, the Teichmuller modular group, and how they act on the homology group of surfaces. The author shows explicitly how to construct surface bundles with non-trivial characteristic classes, and gives a brief outline of the proof that these characteristic classes are algebraically independent.
The author ends the book with a discussion of future research problems for the interested reader, along with a short list of references.

A little gem!

This book is a little gem. I read it cover to cover in one sitting and made notes along the way. Inspired by Machel Shull's years of experience as a face model and her journey to discover (and embrace) the undeniable connection between inner and outer beauty, it's a must-read for women of all ages. Buy a copy for yourself and one for your best friend, too; it's a wonderful gift. Highly recommended.

A Beauty Bible for Everywoman

Middle Age Beauty is a valuable beauty bible for women of all ages. Holistic in nature, it is concerned with the care of body, mind and soul, as the author firmly places the emphasis on the cultivation of inner beauty before all else. Written in an engaging conversational tone, Machel Schull is like a big sister whispering her cherished beauty secrets, while offering down to earth advice in the most honest and direct manner.
Early in the book, Ms. Schull presents a winning argument for the reasons a woman should never lie about her age, backed up by an interview with Dr. Tess Hightower. The aging process and women's attitude to it, is naturally the central focus of the book.
One of my favorite quotes is from Chapter 9, which deals with positive thinking: "When you struggle against reality you cause inner turmoil to your soul".
This phrase resonates with me as I have personally learned that acceptance is the first step to addressing any issues that arise in our lives.
Meditation, the benefits and how to do it are all explained in very simple terms. An interview with Zen Master Michiko Rolek provides further encouragement and helps demystify `mindful breathing'.
There is also a lot of fun in this book, as the author throws cold water on the hype fed to women by society and the beauty industry.
This is a lovely girly book that is also gutsy and full of cheer. In fact I would recommend it to anyone in need of a good boost to their self esteem. Definitely a winner!

Love It, Beautiful, Soulful and Inspirational!

I am both a nerd and artist, needing all the beauty help I can get. Machel's lovely book was heaven sent. The 3 things that stand out for me; 1) Girl friend therapy, (have more fun) 2) working up to taking once a year swimsuit pic 3) awesome health tips like get B shots and drink apple cider, and so much more.
So looking forward to her next book...♡
